At Home Spa
With the prices going up and the paycheck staying the same, it's tough to be able to 'treat' ourselves with our favorite spa trips. Here is some made at home spa ideas to try at home with ingredients that can be found around the house.
Bath Fizzies - What a great way to relax in the tub! And making it yourself adds to the treat even more!
Here is a list of ingredients you'll need to make a Basic Bath Fizzie:
1 part citric acid
2 parts baking soda
Witch hazel (and a spray bottle to use the witch hazel)
Coloring of your choice
Fragrance oil of your choice
Dome Shaped Mold.
Blend the citric acid and baking soda together. This is the most important step of the process. If it isn't blended well, the fizzie will be grainy. If you are making a large batch, a mixer is an ideal way to blend the ingredients together. You can use a metal or glass mixing bowl to accomplish this task.
After complete blending has occurred, you can add your colorant. You can use dry pigments to spice up the color of your fizzie. Do not add too much, the colour will be more pronounced when the witch hazel is added to the mixture.
After you add your colorant you can add your own fragrance oil to the mixture.
While stirring with your hand, spray the witch hazel into the mixture. When it starts to stick together while you are mixing, you can start adding it to your molds. You want to expedite this process because the mixture will get hard if you wait too long. If too much witch hazel is added, the mixture will be too wet and start the fizzing process before its time.
After the mixture is in the molds, let them dry for three to four hours. The harder you pack your molds the more durable your fizzie will be.
Homemade Astringent Toner
Making a toner made from flowers is a fast and easy way to make your favorite smelling toner at home without spending too much.
Roses have great astringent properties and are perfect to use. For every cup of firmly packed rose petals you use pour two cups of boiling water over the top of them. Let them steep and cover them until the liquid is cool. Strain and squeeze out the liquid from the rose petals and use a sterile jar to store and refrigerate.
Warm Your Lotion
A great treat for your skin in those cold months is to place your favorite body lotion on your heating vent while you take a shower. You and your skin will love the warm lotion after a nice hot shower. Be careful though, as your lotion will be more liquid like because it is warm.
